In Dumaguete barangays

Fifteen of the incumbent barangay chairpersons, or half of the 30 villages in Dumaguete City, handily won their re-election bids during Monday’s Barangay & SK Elections.

The re-elected barangay captains are Alva Longa of Poblacion 1/Tinago, Pedro Suniega of Poblacion 2, Peter Calumpang of Poblacion 4, Nelson Ablir of Poblacion 5, Maelyn Mariano of Poblacion 8, Vincent Perigua of Bagacay, Pacencia Maquiling Jr. of Banilad, Nerio Grapa of Bantayan, Frankie Credo of Batinguel, Virginia Alancia of Camanjac, Jovencio Tan Jr. of Daro, Ramel Tayko of Mangnao, Grace Osa of Piapi, Randy Fausto of Tabuctubig, and Roger Bohol of Taclobo.

The new faces in the Association of Barangay Councils are Benefredo Ozoa II of Poblacion 3, Bernardo Sun of Poblacion 6, Angelina Garsula of Poblacion 7, Orlando Enquig of Bajumpandan, Joel Erolon of Balugo, Raquel Samson of Buñao, Venus Cataylo of Cadawinonan, Rolando Egera of Calindagan, Teodulo Salvoro Jr. of Candau-ay, Demosthenes Patinga of Cantil-e, Isagani Bana of Junob, Erwin Lozada of Looc, Elbert Baylon of Motong, Ramil Cornelia of Pulangtubig and Osias Pino of Talay.

Some of the barangay chairmen, like ABC President Diony Amores, were already prohibited from seeking another term, and could not anymore run for public office.

The new ABC president would represent all the barangay captains in the Dumaguete City Council.

Dumaguete has 30 barangays. Unlike other areas in Negros Oriental where the Commission on Elections identified 27 barangays in its watchlist as Areas of Concern, the capital city of Dumaguete did not have any village listed in the poll watchlist.

Among one of the most-awaited results was the candidacy of Mayor Felipe Remollo’s brother, Jupert for the chairmanship of barangay Daro, who lost to the incumbent Brgy Capt. Jovencio Tan II.

Another interesting result was the win of political neophyte Melissa “Chessa” Sagarbarria as No. 1 councilor of barangay Calindagan. She garnered 2,750 votes, or 96 votes more than the new Calindagan barangay captain, Rolando “Zaldy” Egera.

Chessa, 25 years old, is the daughter of 2nd District Cong. Chiquiting and Dumaguete Vice Mayor Maisa Sagarbarria, and youngest sister of Gov. Chaco Sagarbarria. (AP)
