A total of 17 component barangays in Dumaguete were awarded last week for garnering “High Level” of functionality of their Violence against Women Desk based on the latest Seal of Good Local Governance- Barangay Audit.
Barangay officials of the 17 awardees received the plaques of recognition and their cash incentives at P12,000.00 each during the awarding ceremony organized by the Dumaguete field office of the Department of Interior & Local Government.
City Local Government Operation Officer Mark Joshua Quijote said the awardees include barangays Bagacay, Batinguel, Cadawinonan, Calindagan, Camanjac, Daro, Junob, Motong, Piapi, Poblacion 1, Poblacion 2, Poblacion 4, Poblacion 7, Poblacion 8, Tabuc-tubig, Taclobo and Talay.
City Social Welfare & Development Officer Lilibeth Filipinas, Councilor Maria Marife Cordova, and GAD Focal Person Aveangel Alcorin also spoke in support of the program to strengthen the functionality of VAW Desk in the barangays to protect women from abusive partners.
The awarding ceremony was conducted to “recognize the functional VAW Desk, and fittingly present the incentives and awards to deserving barangays.”
The audit aims to “assess the functionality and effectiveness of VAW Desk based on existing issuances and policies; determine innovations and best practices; create an evaluation and assessment platform recognize effective and performing VAW Desk, and provide awards and incentives.” (PR)
