Child-victims of various forms of abuse will soon be able to freely talk about their problems in a Pink Room that the local government of Dumaguete City will build at the proposed Child Protection Unit.
Abused children are interviewed in private inside the pink room and will only be interviewed once, unlike the present setup of having to repeat their story on separate occasions to the police, the city health office and a social worker.
City Social Welfare & Development Office-in-Charge Carola Somoza Alquero disclosed Tuesday during a department heads press conference at the City Hall that the city will be constructing the Pink Room hopefully this year.
The Pink Room aims to lessen the stress of abused children, regardless of gender, undergoing interview by members of the Child Protection Unit as well as improve court testimony efficiency.
The local government unit will provide the site for the Pink Room while the Consuelo Foundation will provide P100,000 to buy equipment and other paraphernalia, she added.
Initially, the Pink Room is eyed at the current CSWDO building, once the office staff will move to its new location at the Women’s Center.
Members of the Child Protection Unit will undergo training on multi-disciplinary approach on handling children’s cases in November of this year. (PNA/JFP)
