The Dumaguete City Advisory Council has approved nine resolutions geared towards the enhancement and upliftment of the police force in maintaining the peace in Dumaguete City.
Foremost of the actions taken by the DCAC headed by Dr. Henry Sojor is a resolution requesting the Police Regional Office for additional police personnel in the City as part of plans to establish at least six police substations in strategic places, the first of which was established last year in barangay Cadawinonan.
Every substation requires at least 21 police personnel, one mobile vehicle, and two motorcycles.
At present, the City has a total police force of 102 with a population of more than 300,000 during daytime, or a ratio of one policeman for every 3,000 individuls.
Dumaguete Police Chief Supt. Jovito Atanacio on Tuesday said the ideal ratio is one policeman for every 500 to 700 individuals.
Another resolution was addressed to the City government to increase the allowance of police personnel from P600 to P2,000.
Reports received by the DCAC showed that policemen would refuse to be downloaded to Dumaguete City because of the meager allowance while on a 12-hour shifting. (JFP/JG)
