The Philippine National Police says it is still investigating the murder of Canlaon District Chief Dr. Avelex Amor that happened on Nov. 20 last year in Guihulngan City.

Police investigators presented a status report of the incident during Tuesday’s Provincial Peace and Order Committee meeting held at the Provincial Capitol.

In the report, the PNP said investigators are working on the theory that the murder was work-related due to issues of corruption and anomalous transactions from the rank and file employees at the Canlaon District Hospital.

Amor was driving his car from Canlaon to Dumaguete City to attend a hearing of the Province’s Grievance Committee when he was shot as he alighted during a quick stopover in barangay Basak, Guihulngan City. He died on the spot.

The police investigators continue to exert their best efforts in conducting an in-depth investigation to identify the assailants and provide evidence for their guilt so that justice may be served, the police update said.

The investigators also revealed that the family of Dr. Amor has sought a parallel investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation.

The family of Dr. Amor, meanwhile, has bewailed the slow pace of the investigation, and has posted streamers in strategic areas in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental calling for justice. (Alex Pal)
