Adlai J. Amor (SUHS ‘73/Journ ‘77) of the Chesapeake Bay Silliman Alumni  Chapter was recently elected as the new president of the Silliman Alumni Association Inc. during the first regular meeting of the SAAI Board of Trustees on Aug. 26.

Elected vice president was Atty. Eric Samuel Joven (Masscom ‘98) of the Sillimanians in Metro Manila Inc.  Leo O. Fortugaleza (SUHS ‘75/Psych ‘81) of the SU Alumni Association-Metro Manila Inc. was elected as public relations officer.

“We will focus on three areas: 1) Fostering the Silliman Spirit through strong alumni chapters and groups; 2) Encouraging more open, transparent, and accountable alumni and University operations; 3) Laying the groundwork for rebuilding the termite-infested Alumni Hall,” Amor, Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee in Environmental Journalism in 1994, told the MetroPost.

Earlier during the SAAI’s annual convention, the following were also elected as new members of the SAAI Board of Trustees, whose terms will end in August 2027: Emma Ray Panaguiton (SUAMMCI) for Luzon; Nancy Ugsad-Estolloso (Dumaguete Chapter) for East Visayas; Thressa Mae Gayo (Iloilo Chapter) for West Visayas; Helen Grace Uy (Cagayan de Oro Alumni) for Mindanao; and Beatriz A. Jackson (Ontario Alumni), at-large.

They join the current SAAI Trustees: Fortugaleza (2025) and Joven (2026) for Luzon; Rosewell Cataylo (2025) and Jusie Lydia Siega-Sur (2026) for East Visayas; Placido Cesar Mapa (2025) and Nanette Abuan (2026) for West Visayas; Yasmin Alih (2025) and April Twinkle Corral (2026) for Mindanao; and Amor (2025) and Elizabeth L. Engle (2026), at-large.

During the first regular meeting, the SAAI Board appointed Iannie Opinion-Bulos (SUHS ‘79/BBA‘83), as treasurer. She’s a Certified Public Accountant and a retired supervisor of the Commission on Audit.

The Board also re-appointed Marie Delos Reyes (SUHS ‘95/BBA ‘99) as executive director; she also acts as Board secretary.

“We can only continue to grow and build the Silliman community and Silliman University by working openly with each other,” said Amor. “For alumni, Silliman is a place that we continue to carry in our hearts when we leave the campus. After all, #SillimanIsInTheHeart.” (Eric Samuel Joven)
