A group of archeologists from the National Museum and the University of Illinois is now exploring some sites in barangay Magsuhot in Bacong, where some artifacts were initially found in 2009.
The archeologists paid a courtesy call on Gov. Roel Degamo and Bacong Mayor Lenin Alviola recently to inform them about the purpose of the research and archeological tests.
Some of the artifacts recovered from the area are plates, a flower vase and earthen pots, which are believed to provide some information on previous cultural influences in the province.
Governor Degamo expressed his interest in the study because it will help uncover other hidden historic artifacts of the province. He is also thankful that Negros Oriental was selected as the site for the historical research.
This is not the first time that archaelogists found historical relics in Bacong. Another team dug up ancient burial jars in the early 70s and these are on display at the Silliman Museum. (PNA/Maricar Aranas)
