Army soldiers belonging to the 302ndInfantry Brigade based in Camp Leon Kilat, Tanjay City, as well as fromthe 11thand 79thInfantry Battalions, brought some 200 underprivileged children from remote areas of Negros Oriental to Dumaguete City to tape part in the Wish Upon a Star project.
This project, hosted by the Oriental Negros Children’s Advocacy Network (ONCAN), the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, and the management of Robinson’s Dumaguete, consisted of a gift-giving activity on Dec. 17 at Robinson’s Place Dumaguete.
In a press release, the Army said the children came from the town of Siaton, as well as from the cities of Guihulngan and Tanjay. Included in the group were some children with disabilities.
Now on its third year, the Wish Upon a Star project aims to spread Christmas cheer among underprivileged children from the rural areas. The children are asked their Christmas wishes by mid November, and the public has the chance of making these wishes come true by buying the children the items listed in the Christmas star.
The Army took care of identifying and transporting the children from their homes to Dumaguete and back. (PR)
