Army models ‘Bayanihan spirit’ during disasters

The 11th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army assisted recently the cause-oriented group, Karapatan-Negros in the distribution of relief goods in barangay Planas, Guihulngan City.

11th IB Civil Military Officer Capt. Joseph Buencamino said while the army troopers were securing the Barangay Planas landslide area, they also volunteered to assist the Karapatan to distribute relief goods to barangay resident-survivors.

Buencamino underscored the Bayanihan spirit of the troopers as they show solidarity to help the affected families in Brgy Planas.

“In the midst of the disaster in the area, 11IB troopers reached out to everyone without reservation and extended their hands with the true Bayanihan spirit in their hearts,” said Capt. Buencamino.

The 11th IB was tasked to secure the landslide areas in the 1st district of Negros Oriental following the killer 6.9 magnitude earthquake on February 6.

The army troops were at the fore front assisting the local government units, private organizations, and national agencies in the overall disaster response efforts.

Capt. Buencamino said, voluminous donations of relief goods poured in the area and concerned rescue teams arrived, the 11IB troopers were involved in the transport of relief goods, recovery of victims in landslides and assisting in medical missions.

The army troops secures and monitors landslide areas, specifically barangays Solonggon and Planas in La Libertad and Guihulngan, respectively to ensure that there will be no further casualties in these areas, as aftershocks are still experienced daily. (mbcn/JCT/PIA-Negros Oriental)
