The 302nd Infantry “Achiever” Brigade of the Philippine Army is hosting a racing event, dubbed as the Leon Kilat 50-Kilometer Ultramarathon on Saturday evening, March 19.
Also known as the Leon Kilat 50: The Achiever, the ultramarathon is organized by the Negros Oriental Sports Federation (NOrSports), an accredited NGO in the local government of Tanjay.
The staging of the Leon Kilat Ultra will be at Camp Leon Kilat in Tanjay, home of the Army’s Achiever Brigade.
The ultramarathon route will cover the highway starting from Camp Leon Kilat, running south through the municipalities of Amlan and San Jose.
The 25-kilometer turning point is at Sitio Lala-an in brgy. Sto. Niño in the town of San Jose, where the endurance runners will then run north back to Camp Leon Kilat for the 50K finish line.
The sporting event is expected to inspire other sports-tourism related events as the Achiever Brigade strives to transform Camp Leon Kilat into a tourism destination of Tanjay City as well.
NOrSports will collect a registration fee of P1,540 per ultra-runner to cover the cost of a bamboo handicraft Achiever’s Plaque, finisher’s dri-fit shirt, post-run brunch, technical fees, and a donation to the 302nd IB’s proposed Negrense Warrior of Peace Museum.
The ultramarathon will begin with a cannon start at 8pm on Saturday, March 19. There will be a 12-hour cut-off for the 50-kilometer distance, which ends at 8am of Sunday, March 20.
