Rep. George Arnaiz said he continues to hope that Congress will be able to take up the long-awaited passage of the Freedom of Information Bill when it resumes session this week.

The Congress has until Feb. 5 next year to work on pending Bills.

The proposed Freedom of Information Act aims to mandate the disclosure of public documents. President Aquino had reiterated that greater fiscal transparency leads to a more responsive government.

The 2nd District solon, however, disclosed there are other priority bills to be discussed, foremost of which is the passage of the national budget, the Bangsa Moro Basic Law that includes proposals to amend economic provisions of the Constitution to entice more foreign investments to come to the Philippines.

With that scenario, he said, the passage of the FOI is uncertain. “But once placed in the plenary, I will vote for the passage of the Freedom of Information bill. (PNA)
