The construction of the Dumaguete Airport development project in Bacong, Negros Oriental, has hit a snag.
Edward Du, regional governor for the Visayas of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the government is having difficulty in right-of-way and land acquisition.
The Department of Finance had earlier announced funding of $137 million from the Korea Eximbank for the construction of the Dumaguete Airport.
This is the first airport project to be offered under Official Development Assistance by the Duterte Administration and the fourth Korean project after Laguindingan, Puerto Princesa and Panglao.
Du’s statement to reporters last week was a downer following heightened optimism that the construction of the airport will take place around 2019 and would take about five years to complete.
The plan for the new Dumaguete airport in Bacong is that this will be an all-weather airport and will have a 2 km x 45m two-way runway and a passenger terminal building capable of supporting 1.5 million passengers per annum.
However, plans are moving for the construction of the Bacong port, that will free up the congestion at the Dumaguete port.
Du said that they are requesting for a hydrological survey in Bacong to determine the ideal site of the said cargo port.
