The Department of Interior & Local Government served on Friday morning a Suspension Order on Bais City Mayor Mercy Teves-Goñi.
Goñi was served the Order in her residence in Dumaguete.
The Suspension Order from the DILG came almost two months after the Ombudsman ordered Goñi suspended for one month and one day, for failing to issue a Mayor’s Permit to a radio station applicant.
In addition to the penalty of suspension, the Ombudsman also ordered Goñi to attend a seminar on values formation.
With the suspension of the Mayor, Vice Mayor Miguel Real was named Acting Mayor, while No. 1 City Councilor April Acas was named Acting Vice Mayor.
Both officials were also informed of their new functions last Friday.
