After they finished conducted fire and earthquake drill to the city hall employees of Dumaguete City last March, the Dumaguete City Risk Reduction Management Office has started the annual fire drill called “Drill & Activity for emergency awareness and preparedness.”
This program will be a must from the barangay level, to business establishments, schools and other institutions in the city.
Jose Chiu, head of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office said they are conducing their trainings outside the City Hall.
Last Thursday morning, the rescue team and the City Disaster Office conducted the fire and earthquake drill at the Central Bank building located in barangay Daro.
Chiu said, that Negros Oriental right now is not safe because of the global warming and climate change. He said that aside from the disasters from last year such as Sendong and the earthquake, they now realize they have to prepare for every emergency.
“By this coming May and June, we will also conduct trainings for all the Barangays. Actually we have 30 Barangays in Dumaguete, so 300 participants will be joining.” Chiu said.
He said that they have already requested each Barangay to prepare emergency equipment like ropes and flashlights.
