The municipality of Dauin is reviving the Baslay Hot Spring, one of the town’s popular tourist spots which was destroyed by typhoon Sendong in 2012.
Dauin Mayor Neil Credo announced the plan to some 160 members of the Baslay Farmers Association who are now into coffee growing.
Credo said he has asked the Vice Mayor Rodrigo Alanano to get the Sangguniang Bayan to pass an ordinance to allocate funds for the reconstruction of Baslay Hot Spring amenities and other development in the area.
He added that concrete roads will also be constructed from the highway going to the hot spring with additional funds from the 3rd congressional district.
Vice Mayor Alanano, for his part, said the revival of the hot spring will complement the farmers’ coffee production project.
The town aims to bring down the source of hot water or spring from Mt. Iso and Mt. Takdol to Baslay.
Dauin officials have encouraged coffee-growing farmers to also set up coffee shops beside some dipping pools as soon these will be established in Baslay.
“Due to our strong efforts to preserve and protect our forest and wildlife including endemic plants before which were abundant here, coffee plants productively grown under the forest as the farmers harvested 13 tons this year,” said Alanano. (PIA)
