Police are still looking for clues that could lead to the identity of the gunman and the mastermind of Tuesday’s ambush of Bayawan City Councilor Alex Diamante Tizon.
Tizon was driving home in his car, an Isuzu Crosswind SUV, when the motorcycle drove beside his car upon reaching barangay Villareal, and opened fire, hitting the Councilor in various parts of the body.
He was killed on the week of Bayawan City’s fiesta celebration.
Tizon, 66, was the lone candidate under the ticket of Gov. Roel Degamo who won in Bayawan City.
Bayawan City OIC Chief of Police PLt Col Alfonzo Enriquez said the suspects were wearing bonnets.
Testimonies of eye witnesses disclosed the firearm used could be an automatic 9mm KG 9 pistol.
Enriquez said the police had so far recovered four fired shells of cal. 9 mm pistol.
He said the crime scene is far from residential houses which the suspects may have taken advantage of.

Before this term, Tizon also served as city councilor for two terms. He lost his vice mayoralty bid in 2016, but won a seat in the City Council in last year’s election.
Meanwhile, the spate of unsolved killings and robberies in Bayawan has prompted Col. Julian Entoma, Philippine National Police provincial director of Negros Oriental, to recommend for the relief of Bayawan Police Station Chief Colonel Enriquez and the entire police force composed of 56 policemen.
Entoma said he will be submitting his recommendation to the Police Regional Office soon.
If the recommendation will be approved, the Bayawan Police Force will be replaced by the Provincial Mobile Force Company.
