Five members of the Local Flood Early Warning and Rescue Team of the City of Bayawan have won a Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award from President Rodrigo Duterte.

The five members, namely Edilberito B. Euraoba, Cindy H. Salimbagat (Team Leader), Noel I Tolentin, Edward Ryan C. Torreda and Machita P. Tuale, were awarded for the group category last Monday in Malacanang.

The plaque signed by the President cited the Rescue Team for exemplifying the best practices in disaster preparedness.

Bayawan City has put put up a 24/7 rescue group with skilled personnel, local flood early warning system, geo-scientific map of the city, preemptive evacuation plans and a data center on disasters to reduce disaster vulnerability of its various communities, the plaque read.

The group’s exploits in rescue operations is not confined to helping fellow Bayawanons as it has responded to calls for help from neighboring towns as well as requests for training from local govern units in Metro Manila, it added.

Also on hand to accept the award in Malacanang was 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves, who represented his brother, Bayawan City Mayor Pryde Henry Teves.

The Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award is the highest award given by the Civil Service Commission in its search for outstanding government workers. (AP)
