Luring visitors to witness the successful staging of the women’s beach volleyball event in the past two years, Bayawan City government in Negros Oriental will again stage the 2013 ”Tawo-Tawo” Festival Women’s Invitational Beach Volleyball tournament at Bayawan City Boulevard on February 2 to 3, 2013.

This tournament is being coordinated by Bacolod-based former Philippine volleyball Federation president Roger A. Banzuela, who invited players representing their schools, company or clubs who are actively involved in the promotion of women’s beach volleyball in the country.

Banzuela said there will be no registration fees. The organizer will also provide transportation services from Dumaguete City and vice-versa where they can assemble at Lamberto Macias Sports Complex lobby at 1:00 pm on February 1. Meals and accommodation will be provided too by the organizer from February 2 to 3. Each team will have two players and a coach.

At stake are cash prizes of P10,000 for the champion; P7,000 for 1st runner-up; P5,000 for 2nd runner-up; and P3,000 each for the top five other teams as consolation prizes.

For those interested, they can contact Mr. James Ludweg I. Geconcillo at Bayawan City Sports Office at telephone numbers (035) 531-0020 local 136 or 4300396.

Last year’s tournament was won by Singaporean tandem of Faye Sai and Sihui Zenn, after they beat University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos duo Jennifer Cosas and Ruby Casiple in the finals.

The women’s beach volleyball tournament in Bayawan is an annual sporting event in celebration of the city’s fiesta. (PNA)
