The suspect in the February 2010 murder of former Miss Dumaguete Ann Rose Fe Bernadette Neri has been rearrested by police.
Dumaguete City Police Chief, Supt. Crisaleo Tolentino served the Warrant of Arrest on Joselito Concepcion Dairo, 29, in the latter’s house in Bayawan City last Wednesday.
Dairo was arrested in March 2010, one month after the Neri killing, but was released three days later because there was no case filed against him yet.
Tolentino told reporters that Dairo was positively identified by witnesses as the gunman. Dairo was also reported to be a leader of a gun-for-hire group operating in Negros Oriental.
Dairo, on the other hand, has denied the charges before Supt. Tolentono. Dairo also reportedly denied involvement in the Neri murder case but added that he was expecting that he would be arrested anytime after a complaint was filed against him last year.
Tolentino disclosed that Dairo has given some names and other information that could help the police in their investigation in solving other crimes perpetrated by supposed hired guns.
Witnesses to crimes believed to have been perpetrated by “contract killers” will be invited to take a look at Dairo in the coming days, said Tolentino.
Meanwhile, the city police chief is appealing to the public to be extra vigilant and report immediately to the police the presence of strangers or persons acting suspiciously in their respective areas to help prevent more crimes from taking place in Dumaguete. (JFP/PNA)
