Barring any delays, the submission and opening bids for the full span concrete bridge connecting Barangays Batinguel and Bagacay (near BIR) with a budget of P 43. 6 million will be conducted on October 10.

This was confirmed by the City Bids and Awards Committee following the pre-bid conference, Thursday, which was participated by several construction firms to clarify matters before they ultimately decide to make the bid.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said that the proposed second bridge traversing Banica River will replace the old spillway so that it can be utilized even during flooding. The structure will be high and sturdy enough to keep all motorists and residents along the river banks safe.

About five construction firms participated in Friday’s pre-bid conference presided by BAC Chairman and City Legal Officer Manuel Arbon. The prospective bidders include: Uy Condev Corporation, PhilSouth Builders, Supreme Mega Structure Builders Incorporated, VVER Construction and Mighty Hok Summit Construction and Development Corporation.

Nevertheless, even those construction firms who were not present during the pre-bid conference cans still participate and submit their bids not later than October 10. The winning bidder must agree to the stipulation in the contract that the construction of the bridge be completed in 303 working days.

Meanwhile, mobilization in the construction of the bridge in Colon at the back of Foundation University has started with the possible removal of electric posts this week to further clear the work site.

The City Government and the administration of Barangay Taclobo along with the engineers of the project will continue to consult the affected residents to address their concerns as the works continues. (PIO)
