Student research studies from the biology and chemistry departments ranked top 3 among 15 research presentations during RExIL Day of Negros Oriental State University, held Dec. 1 as part of the 108th NORSU Founders Day celebration
The theme for the day devoted for Research, Extension & International Linkages was Unity in Diversity through Research, Extension, & Innovation.
Ranking 1st in the research presentation was titled Identification of Helminth Parasites and Parasitic Load in Slipper-shaped Oyster presented by Rochelle Leron, a senior Biology student. Second was titled Chemically-modified Biopolymers as Potential Wound Dressing Material presented by Karyl Malones, a Chemistry senior. Another paper from the chemistry department got 3rd place: Efficiency of nucifers (coconut) and Gmellena arbora (Gmelina) sawdusts in removing total iron in groundwater samples from San Jose, Negros Oriental presented by John Anthony Trazona, a senior student.
Leading the celebration were Dr. Virginia Lacuesta, vice president for REXIL; Dr. Pedrina Patron, Research director; and Dr. Evelyn Lazalita, Extension director.
The eight-day celebration of NORSU Founders Day, which started on Nov. 27, ended Friday, Dec. 4. (Joy Perez)
