The Bureau of Internal Revenue is embarking on a massive information and education campaign as well as coming up with some measures to be able to achieve the target revenues of district offices in 2014.
Carolina Carcullas, chief of the BIR Revenue District Office 79 based in Dumaguete and whose area of coverage includes the provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor, disclosed this is due to the failure of some district offices to meet their tax collection goal last year.
The RDO-79 is also almost likely to have failed but Carcullas said this can be known after the final evaluation done by the BIR Central Office.
Carcullas said a conference is set on February 13 in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental to discuss a work plan on how district offices can achieve their individual tax revenues. RDO-79 is under the coverage of the BIR Region 12 Office based in Bacolod City.
The local BIR office is also gearing up for the simultaneous campaign kick-off on March 11 for the filing season during which taxpayers are urged to file their income tax returns on time and not wait for the deadline on April 15, she said.
After the awareness campaign kicks off on March 11, the local BIR district office will conduct IECs in every town and municipality in Negros Oriental and Siquijor, according to Carcullas.
She expressed optimism the massive information dissemination will help the RDO-79 reach its target goal this year, expected to be pegged at around P2-billion.
Last year, the target goal of the local BIR office was placed at around P1.9 billion but as of December 2013, available records show the total collection was only at P1.8 billion, said Carcullas. (PNA/JFP)
