The Bureau of Internal Revenue in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, launched a tax campaign called I Love the Philippines, I Pay Taxes, at the Robinson’s Place last week.
The tax campaign kick-off of the BIR Revenue District 79 led by Cresencio Agad was attended by Revenue Region 12 director Perfecto Aranas, who appealed to all Negrenses for their sense of patriotism by paying their taxes correctly.
Aranas, the top implementer of “Oplan Kandado” while assigned in Davao, stressed that it is easier nowadays to detect under-declaration of taxes.
This is because all taxpayers are required to submit summary list of sales to address non-issuance of receipts and invoices, failure to register as VAT taxpayers and that tax practitioners have to be accredited by the BIR including bookkeepers, accountants and the like.
The “I Love Philippines, I Pay Taxes” campaign is a noble act of concern and love for oneself, our children and our country, Aranas claimed.
This year’s goal for the four revenue district offices is P5.258 billion, or an increase of P138 million or 2.78 percent over last year’s target.
On the other hand, the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry head, Ed Du, said the BIR has always been a partner of the business sector in the city and province in achieving its goals in the last two years.
He also said the business sector in the province was affected by two calamities, the flooding in December 17 last year, and the 6.9 magnitude earthquake on February 6.
But as resilient people, the business sector has started to recover and is inviting entrepreneurs to pour in more investments in the province, Du said. (PNA)
