The Bureau of Internal Revenue is seriously implementing Section 237 of the National Internal Revenue Code with regards to the issuance of receipts.
Daily monitoring activities showed this provision is openly violated by a number of establishments in Dumaguete and other parts of Negros Oriental, said Revenue District 79 chief Crescencio Agad.
According to Agad, the said business establishments are mandated by law to issue receipts for every sale of food or services even how small it is and that violations would mean a fine of not less than P5,000.
Agad said his office has already collected more than P200,000 in fines for violations of the law, some of which include the issuance of unprescribed or temporary receipts.
He made it clear that even issuance of receipts upon demand is considered a violation of Section 237.
On the other hand, registration of cash register machines, point of sales machines and computer-generated receipts is going on to ensure that every sale or services has a corresponding receipt, Agad pointed out.
He said it has come to a point that the law must be enforced no matter who gets hurt in compliance with pertinent provisions and their mandate to collect taxes. (PNA/Juancho Gallarde)
