After a long hiatus in their current positions, members of the Dumaguete clergy on Tuesday expressed joy and gratitude for their new assignments in the different parishes and other posts covered by the Diocese here.

Majority of the priests have held their positions for as long as eight years maximum since the last reshuffling by then Bishop John F. Du, who was transferred last year, following his appointment by the Vatican as the Archbishop of Palo, Leyte.

Dumaguete Bishop Julito Cortes made the official announcement following the concelebrated Chrism Mass Tuesday morning at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral, where about 90 diocesan priests, as well as from the different religious orders, were present.

The Chrism Mass is held every Holy Tuesday of each year for the anointing of the holy oils used in administering sacraments such as baptism. It is also on this day that the renewal of vows of the priests is held.

The much-awaited announcement of the new assignments was met with a warm welcome and applause from parishioners who filled the Cathedral to the brim for the Holy Tuesday activity.
