The Commission on Human Rights and the Police are now investigating the motive behind the shooting of a businessman in Basay, Negros Oriental, whose seven-year old daughter was also hit by a stray bullet.
Florante Antique Alba, 33, a resident of Poblacion Basay, had surrendered last year at the height of Oplan TokHang and claimed he was a drug user.
Basay police chief Sr. Insp. Louie Batuto Alba had also allegedly sold illegal drugs after his surrender.
Two persons on board a black and white XRM motorcycle went to the victim’s videoke Initial investigation showed that around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, two unidentified persons on board a motorcycle arrived at the victim’s videoke store at the town’s public market and shot him three times, hitting him in the stomach.
A stray bullet also hit the businessman’s seven-year old daughter on the shoulder, the police said.
The victims were brought to the Bayawan District Hospital in the adjacent city of Bayawan by responding police for treatment.
The father was evacuated to Dumaguete City for further treatment while the girl was declared to be safe and in stable condition.
Recovered from the crime scene were two fired shells and one slug for caliber .45 pistol.
Motive for the shooting was not yet immediately known although the police chief said that there are other angles being considered as the man had also some “enemies”.
CHR Special Investigator Jesus Canete, said he suspects that Alba was an intended extrajudicial killing victim. (JFP)
