The construction of a boulevard boardwalk along the scenic Rizal Boulevard will soon kick off after several Senators have pledged to monetary assistance for the project.
The most recent monetary pledge is from Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri who promised to add a million pesos into the project during his May 14 visit to the City. This is in addition to the P1 million aid he had already pitched in earlier for such construction.
Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, Sen. Ralph Recto, and Sen. TG Guingona have also earlier shared a part of their Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) through the Department of Public Works & Highways for the development of the boulevard.
All these bountiful grace is a result of the spontaneous effort of Mayor Manuel T. Sagarbarria in his non-stop fishing for funds to support flagship projects to realize his dreams for Dumaguete City.
The boardwalk will span the waterfront starting at the CAP Bldg. and will stretch up to the space adjacent to the port area, according to City Engr. Edwin Quirit.
This project is solely implemented administratively, meaning, no private contractors are involved to ensure that the full amount of the budget is poured into the project, and only City manpower will be utilized.
Mayor Sagarbarria has expressed his gratitude to the Senators for augmenting the budget for the completion of the boardwalk — which is actually part of an ongoing development project along the scenic stretch of Rizal Blvd. “This boardwalk will be considered the show window of Dumaguete — the place that will capture the interest and love of more tourists, and make them visit and eventually stay in the City,” said Mayor Sagarbarria.
