Board Member Georgita Martinez, her grandchild and two helpers escaped unhurt after the government-issued vehicle she was driving slammed against the concrete fence of Camp Leon Kilat in Tanjay City last Tuesday.
Martinez told the MetroPost that she was driving from Tayasan to Dumaguete around 9:30 a.m. to attend the session of the Provincial Board when she swerved to the right to avoid a speeding van, which hit the rear portion of her pickup truck.
Martinez said that she was forced to drive her vehicle after the government-hired driver left after he failed to receive his salary. “The driver quit his job because his salary was unpaid after the Governor failed to sign the budget for his salary,” she said.
“It was an accident–there was nothing I could do to stop it,” Martinez said after narrating the events prior to the mishap.
Martinez is the wife of the late Provincial Board Member Rudy Martinez, who was killed last 2010 in a road accident near their house in Tayasan, also during the campaign season.
