Buñao Barangay Chairman Lionel Banogon on Monday breezed past lone opponent Isagani Bana of Barangay Junob to clinch the closely-contested position of president of the Association of Barangay Councils of Dumaguete City.
Banogon won over Bana in a 15-13 vote during Monday’s election held at the city session hall in the presence of Atty. Gildu Agoncillo of the City’s Commission on Elections, Felix Ablir, head of the local Department of Interior & Local Government, and Ed Du, president of the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce & Industry, representing the private/non-government sector.
Of the 30 barangays in the city, 28 of them were represented by their barangay captain-elect while only two were absent during the elections, namely, Jorge Ponce de Leon of Poblacion 4 and Orlando Angot of Poblacion 1.
Banogon will replace outgoing ABC-Dumaguete chief, Albert Aquino, former barangay chairman of Bantayan.
The other ABC officers-elect include Manuel “Chaco” Sagarbarria, vice president, Delia Senagan, auditor, and members of the Board of Directors: Nelson Ablir, Dionnie Amores, Bartolome Aranas, Angelita Ragay, Nicolas Ramirez, Ricardo Valencia, Vincent Perigua, Bernald Sun and Gregorio Oira.
Meanwhile, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria called on the people to throw their support to ABC president-elect Lionel Banogon.
Mayor Sagarbarria expressed optimism and confidence in the leadership of Banogon and hopes that he will carry the voice of the people to the city council.
As ABC president, Banogon gets to sit in the city’s legislative body.
Elsewhere in the Province of Negros Oriental, the ABCs in the different towns and cities also held their respective elections in the synchronized polls for new officers of the Liga ng mga Barangay. (PNA)
