Canlaon City recently completed a training of local guides for Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park.

Senior Tourism Operations Officer Myla Mae B. Abellana said the Porter Accreditation Training was sponsored by the City government of Canlaon under the auspices of Mayor Jimmy Jayme Clerigo through City Tourism Officer Dr. Marissa B. Cornelia, in partnership with the Mt. Kanlaon DENR headed by Park Supt. Engr. Cecil L. Canada who served as training course facilitator.

Resource speakers were from the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park Office, the Canlaon City Rescue Team, Cuernos de Negros Mountaineers, the Negros Oriental Tourism Office, and the Tourism Educators Council in Negros Oriental.

The Porter Accreditation Training was designed to upgrade the competence of the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park guides to cater to visiting local and international tourists, respond to unforeseen incidents, act as ambassadors of ecological tourism, and monitor and regulate all visits to the site, Abellana added.
