With a giant spinning wheel making the capitol area look like carnival grounds, Negros Oriental launched the Pasko sa Kapitolyo program Saturday with free rides and free food.
Myla Abellana, senior tourism operations officer, said traditional belens (Nativity scene) are still the central dioramas of the booths of the local government units at the Sidlakang Negros Village, while Christmas trees made of recycled milk bottles will comprise the entries to the NORIENT Christmas tree competition which will be held at the SNV and the Capitol forecourt, respectively.
Abellana said the program comprises a smorgasbord of activities and treats designed for a cheerful and meaningful Christmas celebration.
Some 13 LGUs have joined the SNV “Dayan-dayan” competitions; the DepEd Negros Oriental and Bayawan City Divisions have signified entries in the Belen category in the Capitol Forecourt, Abellana said, while several schools have confirmed participation in the Christmas tree contest of NORIENT.
Also in the Forecourt and the Freedom Park will be a bazaar, food concessionaires and snack stands, as well as the Lecian carnival. Abellana said that “Pasko sa Kapitolyo” will serve visitors free puto and chocolate, coffee and ice cream, and treat the first 500 visitors to free Lecian carnival rides.
Abellana said “Pasko sa Kapitolyo” will run through December 24, with nightly cartoons and film showings at the Provincial Capitol, and cultural presentations. A Christmas garden show will be open daily at Sidlakang Negros Village, Abellana added. (PTO)
