A regional trial court (RTC) in Negros Oriental convicted Friday a man charged with carnapping for violation of Republic Act 6539 or the Anti-Carnapping Law.
Sentenced to suffer the penalty of imprisonment of 14 years and eight months minimum to 17 years and four months maximum was Paul Aaron Estela, according to Sr. Insp. Robelito Mariano, chief of the Provincial Highway Patrol Team (PHPT).
Judge Cenon Voltaire B. Repollo of RTC Branch 38 in his decision found the accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
Estela, a resident of Habitat 1 in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, was arrested last Feb. 6, 2016, for stealing a motorcycle, said Mariano.
Meanwhile, the PHPT recovered a stolen motorcycle and arrested two persons for violation of Republic Act 10883, he added.
A joint operation of the PHPT and the Intelligence Section of the Dumaguete City Police Station arrested Mark Medez and John Mark Condiman, both of legal age and both residents of Purok Malag Suba, Barangay Bagacay in this capital city for allegedly having in their possession one Chongcing motorcycle with plate number 5150VU.
The black motorcycle was reported last March 10 as stolen while parked unattended (SWAPU) at the SPI Global in Barangay Bagacay, Dumaguete City by Rey Villacampa, said Mariano.
Medez was arrested around 10 a.m. Thursday in Barangay Bagacay while a hot pursuit operation resulted in the arrest of Condiman around 5 o’clock in the afternoon of the same day, Mariano added. (JFP)
