Third-year business economics major Merwilyn Panoy grabbed third place during the 2nd Inter-Collegiate Economics Quiz Bee, which took place at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Dumaguete Branch, July 31.

“I told myself to give the best,” Panoy said about her performance. “Then I prayed to God that whatever he might give to me, I’d accept it.”

She added that with multiple universities throughout the city as her contenders, she felt pressured when she was selected to represent FU. She admitted that she thought she might not place in the competition, but her performance ended up earning her the gratitude of at least one of her teachers.

“I was so happy that she won as third place, because we are consistent since last year,” Hazel Pinili, CBA instructor, said.

Last year, Bryan John Bacurnay, fourth-year business economics major, also took third place in the competition.

In choosing the contestant for this year, Pinili said she was confident about Panoy because she is knowledgeable about economics.

Panoy described the award as a “fruit of labor” while keeping in mind her inspiration that led her to victory.

“My parents worked hard for me, so I give back my best for them,” she said. (Jomar Allan Solania)
