Celebrating the Family

After more than a two- year hiatus of events, Dumaguete is back on the beat.

This year’s Family Week Celebration is joyfully hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Although the day was greeted with a subtle downpour, the event commenced with an energetic Zumba performance led by Milen Jan Rodriguez, Brianna Villarin and myself.

Then a sumptuous breakfast was served in each unit, puto-tsokolate being the favorites, and of course, hot pandesal to complete the morning.

A series of fun-filled activities were then prepared for the little ones, from learning hygiene to making pastillas, and ending it with a colorful face painting. Of course, ice cream was next in line for those who completed the agenda.

And what’s a celebration without a little grooving? Each town/city showed an exciting performance in cheerdance with the team theme Urbanisasyon at Pamilyang Pilipino: Magkaagapay sa Pagpapatibay at Pagpapaunlad ng Bansa (Urbanization and the Filipino Family: Working together for a Strong and Progressive Nation).

A motorcade then followed from Pinili St., passing along the Dumaguete Market, following the long stretch of Real St., and turning right to Rovira St. to continue upto Piapi Beach, following the new road along the coast of Piapi-Looc, and ending at the boulevard.

Finally, the event culminated with a movie outdoor experience. And all that was a wonderful display of togetherness.

We’d like everyone to join and celebrate Family Week by posting your family picture with the hashtag: #BuildingForeverFamilies #BFF

Unity starts in the home, and ripples outside the home eventually making the world a better place.️
