Celebrating women

“When you support each other, the world changes.” – Reese Witherspoon

This is a beautiful quote from the great actress, who’s known for her iconic roles, including in Legally Blonde. I bring up this movie because it’s the perfect cocktail of women and their strengths.

It’s a story about a woman who no one believed in, yet she bet on herself, and exceeded everyone’s expectations, including her own.

In the movie, there’s also the side story of a woman who couldn’t find the strength to leave a toxic situation without the support of her girlfriend. And lastly, of course, we have the arc of two women who overcame their petty jealousy to discover a deep and enduring friendship—becoming soul sisters.

Women are multi-faceted. We are independent and strong, yet we know when to lean on one another. We are lawyers, business owners, nurses, doctors, yoga instructors, cashiers, saleswomen, and stay-at-home moms.

But we’re also humans—deeply empathetic and kind. We’re mothers, daughters, nieces, cousins and caring Titas.

I couldn’t be more proud of the women at Dekada ‘80 Bistro. We come from so many walks of life, with our own deeply personal stories that  we’ve shared or kept to ourselves in order to protect others.

We deserve recognition for the heart and soul we pour into our jobs, our families, and our loved ones. Too often, we are overlooked, undermined, and diminished, but we never let it get us down.

So I raise a glass to all the incredible women in the world, and say, “To being a woman!”
