The national government through the Department of Social Welfare & Development awarded a P100,000 cash grant to a former teacher who recently turned 100.
The centenarian, Ma. Luisa Consolacion Magbanua, of Purok Fuente, barangay Bagacay in this capital city, received the centenary award on Wednesday, said Lilibeth Filipinas, City Social Welfare & Development chief.
Filipinas told the media on Thursday that Magbanua is the second centenarian to receive the award this year, and the 26th since 2017.
Mica Temple of the DSWD-Social Welfare & Development office, George Villamor and Enriquita Alcaide of the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs, and Yanie Lecciones, CSWDO social worker, handed the award to Magbanua at her residence.
Magbanua is a retired teacher at St. Paul University-Dumaguete, and turned 100 on Aug. 24.
Filipinas said Magbanua also qualifies for the P50,000 award from the City government, and P100,000 from the provincial government, provided the requirements are completed.
She said the recipients of the centenary awards in the City included one each year in 2017, 2018, and 2019; five in 2020; eight in 2021; four in 2022 and in 2023; and two thus far this year. (Judy F. Partlow/PNA)
