Chaco Sagarbarria wins PCL presidency

Dumaguete City Councilor Manuel “Chaco” Sagarbarria and his entire slate won by landslide against their opponents in the election for the new set of officers of the Philippine Councilors’ League in Negros Oriental.

Chaco, son and namesake of Rep. Manuel “Chiquiting” Sagarbarria of the 2nd district of Negros Oriental, received 177 votes, to win over San Jose Councilor Carmelo Bacay, who got 81 votes.

Canlaon City Councilor Mamerto Bermil Jr. also won over Mabinay Councilor Carlito Garces for the vice presidency with a 176-76 vote.

Some 258 of the 262 councilors in the Province were present during the elections.

Other officers who were elected: Sta. Catalina Councilor Rusmar Ian Tijing, auditor; Sibulan Councilor Dirke Fontelo, treasurer; Amlan Councilor Anna Jay Mariot, secretary-general; and Manjuyod Councilor Jeremiah Andaya, PRO; and Bais City Councilor Jed Goñi, business manager.

Elected to the Board of Directors were Valencia Councilor Juna May Teves, Ayungon Councilor Dennis Amancio, Dauin Councilor Joseph Michael Araula, Bindoy Councilor Beverly Dy, Bayawan Councilor Herman Carballo, Sibulan Councilor Edilberto Gravador, Tanjay City Councilor Epifanio Busmeon, and Mabinay Councilor Godiardo Codera Jr.

Chaco said he would source funds by next year so that members of the PCL could be provided with health insurance.

He said his election as president is a “big responsibility” and that with unity among all councilors in the Province, he said he believes they can all help carry out his plans and programs for the organization. (Juancho Gallarde)
