The Commission on Higher Education presented the Excellence in Quality Assurance in Teacher Education (EQuATE) Award to 102 institutions in the country, including the SU College of Education, in ceremonies held at the Manila Hotel.

The award recognizes SU’s commitment to “maintaining the highest standards in pre-service teacher education, as demonstrated by its adherence to CHED’s minimum standards, program accreditation, and outstanding performance” in the Licensure Examination for Teachers.

Some 1,553 institutions in the Philippines offer the Bachelor of Science in Education programs.

Dr. Edizon Fermin, CHED chair of the technical panel for Teacher Education, underscored the pivotal role of the SU College of Education as a Center of Excellence in Education and as EQuATE awardee. He said the College is expected to lead other higher educational institutions in the GURO roadmap (Guaranteeing quality, Upholding synergy, Reframing curricula, and Optimizing pathways) as part of CHED’s strategic vision for enhancing teacher education across the country.

In his message during the awarding ceremony, CHED Chairperson Dr. J Prospero De Vera III challenged the 102 awardees to continue to “sustain and enhance the quality of teacher education and nurture a culture of excellence in teacher education in the country.” He commended them for their dedication to exceeding national standards, noting their exceptional performance in the LET, high accreditation levels, and adherence to CHED’s quality assurance mechanisms.

De Vera also lauded their commitment to going “above and beyond their mission to provide high-quality teacher education,” ensuring they meet the evolving demands of the teaching profession through innovative approaches and dedication to excellence.

Representing Silliman in the awarding ceremony were Education Dean Dr. Gina Bonior, Associate Dean Dr. Elvie Nasvik, and Dr. Jasper Eric Catan, chair of the Teacher Education Program.

The SU College of Education has achieved Level 4 accreditation status from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges & Universities. (SU Media & Public Affairs)
