Ten chefs are now ready to pit their healthy desserts and drinks against each other in a Lutong Garbo competition during the celebration of Buglasan Festival on October 21 at the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), Dumaguete City.
“For the second year of the Lutong Garbo, we are looking for another taste made of local sweets and drinks that can be offered to tourist-visitors,” said Lutong Garbo Committee Chair Sylvia Uy.
The participating chefs are from the local government units of Amlan, Bacong, Basay, Dumaguete City, Pamplona, Siaton, Sibulan, Sta. Catalina, Tanjay City, and Valencia.
The competition is open to municipal and city residents of Negros Oriental who are endorsed by the local executives who can prepare desserts and drinks using indigenous ingredients.
The competing chefs must wear appropriate white attire with apron and hair bonnet and provide his/her own utensils and equipment which will be inspected 30 minutes before the contest proper.
The healthy desserts and drinks must be good for 10 persons with the cost indicated in the Entry Form.
Use of artificial coloring and refined sugar is not allowed, however, the use of muscovados or honey (not commercial) is accepted.
Contestants are given 15 minutes to prepare and set up their ingredients.
Healthy desserts will be judged according to the following criteria: Palatability, 40%; Originality, 40%; Texture, 10%; and Healthy Dessert Presentation, 10%.
Criteria for drinks include originality (40%), flavor (40%), and presentation of drink (20%).
Winners of the dessert competition will receive P6,000 for the 1st prize, P4,000 for 2nd prize, P3,000 for 3rd prize, and P2,000 each for the consolation prizes.
For the drinks category, the 1st prize winner will get P4,000, 2nd placer with P3,000, and P2,500 for the 3rd placer.
Non-winners will receive a consolation prize of P2,000 cash.
Certificates of recognition will be awarded to all contestants and LGUs represented. (jct/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
