Three major chess events were launched last week.

The Sibulan Fiesta Non-Master Open Chess Championship until Sunday, June 7 is organized by the local government unit of the municipality of Sibulan, through its Sibulan Chess Corner Association. It is held at the Sibulan Park.

The event carries total cash gifts of no less than P20,000 with the champion getting P7,000 and a trophy.

The top 10 players will be awarded cash gifts, trophies and medals, plus other Special Awards.

The second chess event is Eya’s Enterprises & S&S Monitronix Open Non-Master Chess Championship, which begins on June 8 until June 9 at #14 Mango Ave., barangay Bantayan.

The event has participants from the neighboring provinces of Negros Occidental, Cebu, and Mindanao.

Closely assisting in the events are Isagani Bana, Uymatiao Construction, and Caballes Press.

The third chess event is the Alta 7 Chess Championship, organized as part of the regional conference and seminar workshop, performance evaluation, and wellness program for local treasurers and assessors in Region 7.

This will be held from June 8 to 11 at Hotel Essencia.

The team event will be held at the sky deck of Hotel Essencia on June 9 and 10, with teams from Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, and Negros Oriental. (Florendo Zamora)
