Volunteers from Chevron Philippines Inc., marketer of the Caltex brand of fuels and lubricants, recently helped plant 900 mangrove seedlings, exceeding their original 600 target, in Brgy. Poblacion, Amlan, Negros Oriental to prevent the Amlan river from further eating into private and public properties.
Erosion has become a problem and danger for the residents when the flow of Amlan River was altered by heavy rains from typhoons Pablo, Sendong, and Yolanda — which all hit the Province over the last two years.
CPI rallied its employees and contractors from its Amlan Terminal to spend a day covering 3,000 sqm. of riverbank.
“I commend Chevron for being a long time proactive partner in our environmental initiatives. We will continue to work together to create a greener and healthier environment here in Amlan,” said Job Tagle, Amlan municipal environment & natural resources officer, whose will manage and monitor the growth of the mangroves.
