With an unwavering voice, Mayor Manuel “Chiquiting” Sagarrbaria said: “Pres. Noynoy Aquino, WELCOME TO THE CITY OF GENTLE PEOPLE!”.
Yes, we join in the reaffirmation of Dumaguete’s identity as the City of Gentle People.
Let us not be defined by the random violent incidents that marred the peace and order situation.
Let us join our Mayor in making sure that our city would survive and live up to its moniker.
We recall that today, marks the 10th anniversary attacks of New York City and the Pentagon. Surely this date is recorded in history as the worst day of terror, in the world. But somehow, New York City survived and is still the Big Apple-a city that never sleeps.
While Dumaguete is not New York City, it is a challenge to all of us, its constituents to act on our own conviction that crime and terror will not dampen our enthusiasm to protect over “gentle way of life”.
If we allow the violence to define our actions by manifesting fear, detachment, helplessness, or despondency, then these evil men would have succeeded in creating a veil of intimidation to our whole city.
Each of this criminal, has a family- parents, brothers, sister, friends, relatives, neighbors, school, church, surely someone out there knows something. Let us protect our way of life by reporting criminal elements to the authorities.
The mayor and the police cannot do it alone. Let us all work together and re affirm the fact that Dumaguete is a “CITY OF GENTLE PEOPLE”
