Last July 25, 2015, the Hospitality Management Society together with the Eco-Tourism Class conducted a Coastal Clean-up at the sanctuary located in Brgy. Tandayag, Amlan.

Headed by Dean Marilou Pidor together with the CHM Faculty, the students brought cleaning materials (black bags, sack, gloves, etc) to be used in cleaning and hauling garbage in the area. All the students really enjoyed picking garbage along the shore. This activity is a big help in the environment because this could reduce the problems that will occur. Also, this activity will help the environment in protecting, managing and preserving it.

This created awareness to local people on the need to protect the coastal areas as gateway to the seas and oceans. As we all know trash has infiltrated all reaches of our ocean, causing innumerable impacts to people, water quality, marine wildlife and economies and also one of the sources contributing to climate change. Through this kind of activity, the ocean trash can be prevented by tackling trash at the source before it has a chance to reach the water. As the saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure.” (Clifford Ligutom)
