Three school buildings that will provide a total of additional 24 classrooms will be constructed this year after Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo approved the program of works amounting to more than P36 million, which shall be taken from the local Special Education Fund.

Among the three recipient public schools for the construction of a two-storey, eight-classroom school building are the North City Elementary School at P11.9 million; South City Elementary School at P11.9 million, and the Cadawinonan Elementary School at P11.9 million, including the improvement of its covered stage at P 500, 000.

The Mayor said his administration is consistent in investing for the construction of school buildings and facilities that will serve the needs of both faculty and students to improve the learning environment and quality of education, especially when face-to-face classes resume after the COVID-19 pandemic shall have been minimized or controlled.

North City Elementary School, also referred to as Piapi School, serves pupils who are mostly residents of barangays Looc, Daro, Piapi and Bantayan. The South City Elementary School primarily serves pupils from barangays Mangnao, Bagacay and Banilad. While the Cadawinonan Elementary School serves pupils from barangays Cadawinonan and Upper Balugo.

The Mayor has also earmarked P62.2 million for the construction of nine school buildings in seven public schools this year, along with the electrical upgrade for the Dumaguete City National High School worth P1 million. (PR)
