City celebrates nutrition month

The Dumaguete City government, through the City Nutrition Council, culminated the Nutrition Month Celebration with a Food Fair 2015 and awarding of winners at the Quezon Park on Thursday.

Dumaguete Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria cut the ceremonial nutrition vine made from local vegetables to open the Food Fair in the morning. With him were Councilor Dan Leon and City Nutrition Officer Lourdes Taburaza, said Syril Repe of the City Information Office.

In his message, Mayor Sagarbarria said the city government will continue its efforts to promote wellness and nutrition programs.

All departments of the city government will be participating in exercise programs but in the meantime, he is still awaiting the memorandum from the Civil Service Commission for the two-day exercises a week.

Once the memo arrives, the mayor will approve it immediately and schedule the exercises every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Quezon Park, Repe disclosed.

He urged all city hall employees to join the program for them to be healthy.

Mayor Sagarbarria also announced that the city government received another award, this time, the best practice on Nutri-fit walk, wherein the city through the City Nutrition Office conducted a yearly activity in line with Nutrition Month Celebration. One of the highlights is the Nutri-fit walk around the city streets with thousands of individuals participating in the said activity, Repe said.

The activity culminated with the awarding of the winners in various contests as follows: A-1 Child and A-1 student contest: A-1 Child (boy) – Gabriel Nicolai Tabaloc, A-1 Child (girl)- Samanta Nicole Torres, A-1 Student (boy) – John Lloyd Vincoy and A-1 Student (girl) – Anya Viene Tolomia;

Booth Contest: 1st – Barangay Cantil-e, 2nd place – Bajumpandan and 3rd place – Poblacion-2; Well Baby Contest: 1st place, Sean Zhaki Hidlao Quio, 2nd place, Lance Sarne and 3rd place, Clifford Singson;

Day Care Center Nutrition Corner: 1st place, Sto. Nino Banilad Day Care Center, 2nd place, Purok 6 Batinguel Day care center and 3rd place, Northern Junob day care center;

Day Care Center School Garden Contest (Urban Category): 1st place, Canday-ong Day Care Center, 2nd place, Manganao Day Care Center and 3rd place, Laguna Day care center;

Day Care Center School Garden Contest (rural category): 1st place, Cantil-e school base day care center, 2nd place, Camanjac day care school center and 3rd place, Balugo day care center.

Other awardees include for the Quiz bowl: 1st place, Jessica Larena, 2nd place, Marivic Angay and 3rd place, Christine Renafiel;

Zumba trio contest: 1st place, Junob; 2nd place, Bunao; and 3rd place, Cadawinonan;

Search for Outstanding School administrator in the implementation of school health and nutrition programs and projects: 1st place, Julius Silot; 2nd place, Sophia Tundaga; and Roberta Puntual and 3rd place, Rhoda Tabares and Rosana Marinas. (PNA/PR)
