Dumaguete City received the prestigious Galing Pook Award for Environment for its best practices in innovating and implementing the city-wide Septage Management Program.
Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria received the award March 18 from Interior & Local Government Sec. Mar Roxas at the Diosdado Macapagal Hall of the Landbank Plaza in Malate, Manila.
Of the 122 cities all over the country, 16 were initially chosen to present their respective best practices. Dumaguete officials presented the septage facility project located in barangay Camanjac.
On Sagarbarria’s first term as mayor, the City government of Dumaguete was a recipient of four other prestigious national and regional awards.
The first was the Seal of Good Housekeeping Award in 2011 for the City’s exemplary performance in administrative, social, and economic governance.
The second was the Department of Interior & Local Government’s Gawad Pamana ng Lahi, considered the mother of all awards, given December 2012 for the City’s transparency and accountability efforts.
Third, the Dumaguete City government was adjudged a regional winner in the search for the 2012 Very Supportive Local Government Unit to Fisheries Projects, the ceremonies of which were held in October last year in BFAR-7, Cebu City.
Fourth, the Galing Pook Award for the City’s best practices in the environment.
The City also won an award as Most Promising City in Central Visayas in the recently-concluded 7th Regional Nutrition Action Officers Congress and Grand Nutrition Awards.
Mayor Sagarbarria, City Nutrition Officer Lourdes Taburasa, and nutrition coordinator Purivic Paras received the award, recognizing the City’s nutrition action plan and programs that involve a year-round supplemental feeding program for pre-school children.
For these awards, Mayor Sagrabarria has lauded the initiative and cooperation of his fellow officials, City Hall department heads and employees, and the Dumaguete residents for the support for the successful implementation of the various projects and services.
