The City of Dumaguete awarded its offices and and about 27 employees for a job well done, bringing honor to the City by winning awards and recognition in the regional, national, and international levels.
The awards were given Friday during the Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) at the Dumaguete Gymnasium & Multi Purpose Hall in barangay Calindagan.
The offices of the City Mayor and the City Tourism were awarded P7,500 each for the distinction extended by the Live and Invest Retirement Index of California, USA, and by Forbes Magazine, which chose Dumaguete as the 5th Best Place to Retire in the World in 2014.
The City Public Financial Management Team (composed of Planning & Development Officer Engr. Lionides Caro, City Treasurer Cristina Merced, Budget Officer Antonieta General, the City Accountant, the General Services Officer, and City Assessor Danny Amores), the Disaster Risk-Reduction Management Office headed by Engr. Jose Chiu, the Local Governance Support Program-Local Economic Development Project Implementation Team (composed of Tourism Officer Woodrow Maquiling Jr., the City Planning & Development Officer, Economic Enterprise Officer Engr. Jose Ronnie Fortin, Negros Oriental Association of Travel Agencies president President Macrina Fuentes, and Negros Oriental Chmaber of Commerce & Industry President Edward Du), the Peace and Order Council, and the Environment & Natural Resources Office headed by Rey Awayan were also awarded P5,000 for the 2015 Seal of Good Local Governance.
The City Tourism Office also received P5,000 for garnering the 2015 Pearl Award for the Best World Tourism Day Celebration in the Philippines.
The City Public Financial Management Team also received P5000 for winning the 2015 Good Financial Housekeeping Award. The team is headed by the Planning & Development Officer, and composed of the City Treasurer, the Budget Officer, the City Accountant, the General Services Officer, and the City Assessor.
The City Sports Development Office headed by Ike Villaflores received P5,000 for being a runner-up in the 2015 Pearl Award-Best Sports Tourism Event of the Philippines.
The City Smoke-Free Council also obtained a cash prize of P5,000 for winning the 2014 Red Orchid Award for its Smoke-Free Program.
On the other hand, regional competition awardees were given P3,500 each:
The Sanggunian Panglunsod presided by Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling and the professional staff headed by Sanggunian Secretary Atty. Arthur Fran Tolcidas received the honor for being the 2015 Most Outstanding Sanggunian Panlungsod in Region 7.
The Nutrition Office headed by Lourdes Taburaza was also recognized for the 2015 Best in Nutrition Project in Region 7 Award.
The Public Employment Services Office led by Ma. Socorro Mira was also honored for the 2014 PESO Top Regional Performer Award.
The City Agriculturist’s Office headed by William Ablong also got P3,500 for winning the 2014 Regional Gawad Saka Outstanding Award, and the 2013 Regional Agricultural Award.
The City Treasurer’s Office was also given a cash award for the 2014 Outstanding 100 Percent Collection Efficiency Award in Region 7 both in the real property taxes and business taxes categories.
The PRAISE Committee was chaired by City Administrator William Ablong, with City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria.
