City ends Nutrition Month with food fair

The Dumaguete City government, through the City Nutrition Council and the City Agriculture Office, opened Food Fair 2014 at Quezon Park, in line with Nutrition Month celebration this year on the theme Kalamidad Paghandaan, Gutom at Malnutrition Agapan.

City Administrator and City Agriculturist William Ablong, in his welcome message, thanked the farmers for helping the City in terms of food productions.

During the Food Fair, different root crops, products and vegetables from 30 barangays in the City were displayed.

In his message, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria committed to continue the programs initiated by the City Nutrition Office, and to see to it that every individual gets proper nutrition.

City Nutrition Officer Lourdes Taburasa said the activity culminated with the awarding ceremony of the following winners: for Quiz bowl: 1st place, Maricar Elloren (Taclobo), 2nd prize, Shiela Marie Larena (Looc), and 3rd place, Jackylou Mendoza (Looc);

Day Care Center Nutrition Corner: 1st place, Bajumpandan Habitat-1, 2nd place, Mangnao Canal, and 3rd place, Cadawinonan School;

Day Care Center School Garden Contest (urban category): 1st prize, Calindagan,2nd place, Barangay 8, and 3rd place, Taclobo Banikanhon; (rural category): 1st prize, Cadawinonan, 2nd prize, Talay Resource, and 3rd place, Purok Gabi, Banilad;

Sustainability Garden Contest: Upper Banilad and Barangay 2 Day Care Center;

6th Oratorical Contest: 1st prize, Carl Joel Tilos (Camanjac National High school), 2nd prize, Rose Mae Tecsion (City High School), and 3rd place, Joyce Fernandez (Foundation University High School);

Well Baby Contest: 1st prize, Ava Yzobelle Dales (Pulantubig), 2nd prize, Kriza Carlyn Hartendorp (Balugo), and 3rd prize, Karla Marie Catada (Calindagan);

Cooking Contest: 1st place, Josephine Nople (Bunao), 2nd prize, Marivic de Jesus (Motong), and 3rd place, Vilma Cabonelas (Balugo);

Booth Contest: 1st prize, Barangay Bajumpandan, 2nd prize, Barangay Tabuc-tubig, and 3rd place, Barangay Cadawinonan;

A-1 Day Care Child Contest: A-1 Day Care, Ludwig Daylan Bangay (Bajumpandan Habitat 2) and A-1 Day Care Pixel Beso (Looc Day Care Center);

Organic Vegetable Garden Contest (urban category): 1st prize, Marcos Mero (Calindagan), 2nd prize, Bienvinido Teves (Bunao); (rural category): 1st prize, Novie Jaos (Talay), 2nd prize, Celia Delos Reyes (Junob), and 3rd prize, Joel Unto (Mangnao). (PIO)
