The groundbreaking/laying of the time capsule for the P50-million restoration project of the Dumaguete City Hall is scheduled on Jan. 24.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo made the announcement Monday as he directed the City Engineer’s Office to assist and coordinate with the departments that will be affected by the restoration project to be funded by the National Museum.
He assured the City Schools’ Division, employees of the City government, and clients that there will be proper ingress and egress at the City Hall compound.
The Mayor said he plans to landscape the area with plants and trees all the way through Quezon Park and the Belfry at the Cathedral compound.
He said when finished, it will not just be a regional museum for artifacts but a mini-oval for walkers.
The restoration will be completed in seven months.
The Mayor also announced that all regular employees will receive the third tranche of salary increases.
He congratulated the City Treasurer’s Office headed by Christina Merced for surpassing collection targets last year by almost P100 million, and by more than P50 million upon their assumption into office.
Due to the two successive significant increases in collections, Remollo said the City can now fund two major projects — the construction of two bridges costing P50 million each. (Juancho Gallarde/PNA)
