Even before its full implementation, the city administration has already earmarked an additional P20 million budget next year for the installation and maintenance of Closed Circuit Televisions in strategic locations across the city.
Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo stressed that this brings to P70 million the total funds dedicated for the purchase of CCTVs from the initial P15 million in the previous administration without the need to enter into a loan agreement with any financial institution.
Remollo stressed that CCTVs will be used to prevent crimes or solve them, manage traffic or help authorities in the event of calamities providing accurate information and appropriate response from authorities.
This year’s P50 million budget for CCTVs was sourced out from surpluses while the additional P20 million is included in the 2017 annual budget of the city.
The administration is working hard for the bidding and actual implementation of the project to be completed within the first quarter of 2017 just in time for the hosting of the Regional Palaro and possibly the Palarong Pambansa.
